Deborah Fuhr, Partner & Co-Founder, ETFGI
Deborah Fuhr is a partner and co-founder of ETFGI, an independent research and consultancy firm established in 2012 covering the global ETF and ETP industry. The firm is focused on providing thought leadership, producing independent research on the global ETF and ETP industry including monthly ETF and ETP asset flows, manager rankings, product updates, index providers rankings, exchanges rankings, banks and brokerage firms ETF and ETP trading rankings, providing education and assistance to investors on product comparison, asset allocation implementation as well as offering customised research.
Previously she was the Global Head of ETF Research and Implementation Strategy and a Managing Director at BlackRock/BGI from Sept 2008 – Oct 2011 managing a team which won a number of awards. Ms Fuhr worked at Morgan Stanley in London from 1997 – 2008 as a Managing Director and head of the Investment Strategy team. Prior to this she was an Associate at Greenwich Associates the strategic consulting and research source for providers and users of financial services worldwide.
ETFGI won the Best ETF Research award in 2012 in the ETF Express awards announced on February 28th 2013 in London. In 2012, 2009, 2008 and 2007, Ms Fuhr was named as one of the Top 100 women in Finance, a distinguished list of the most influential women in European Finance, by Financial News.
She has an MBA from the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut.

 

 

Reginald M. Browne, Senior Managing Director, Global Co-Head of ETF Group at Cantor Fitzgerald & Co.
Reginald Browne is senior managing director and global Co-Head of the ETF Group at Cantor Fitzgerald & Co., where he oversees the operations of the ETF Group globally. Mr. Browne’s service with Cantor Fitzgerald began in September 2013.
Prior to joining Cantor Fitzgerald, Browne was the Co-Global Head of the Listed Derivatives Group at KCG Holdings, formally Knight Capital, where he built the largest ETF team in the industry and was the steward of 38% of the listed ETFs on the NYSE/Arca exchange as lead market maker. Browne’s team was recognized globally as the best in class in the U.S. with annual industry recognition by clients and peers three consecutive years starting in 2010. Prior to Knight, Browne spent 18 years in senior leadership roles in derivative trading organizations, which began at O’Connor and Associates in Philadelphia.
Mr. Browne has a B.S in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from La Salle University. Mr. Browne is a producer of the Broadway show, The Trip to Bountiful, which earned a nomination for the Antoinette Perry Award, commonly known as a Tony Award; Best Revival of a play. Browne is also a trustee of McCarter Theater in Princeton, NJ.

Pat Bolland, Media Consultant
Longtime business commentator Pat Bolland has been a business thought leader north and south of the border. Pat worked his way up in the investment industry from floor clerk on the Toronto Stock Exchange to VP with a top tier firm before moving into broadcasting. Pat’s been business editor at four major networks, currently Sun New Network on ‘AM Agenda’. He has parlayed his TV hosting skills into media training, corporate PR as well as hosting, moderating and webcasting for events and conferences. Not to mention a lot of lacrosse coaching. Despite all his business and sport acumen he’s best known as “the guy with the ‘stache”. Follow him at @patbolland.

 

 

Paul Bosse, Principal, Vanguard
Paul Bosse, CFA, is a principal in Vanguard Investment Strategy Group. He works with institutional clients, consulting on asset allocation and portfolio construction issues. Before joining Vanguard, Mr. Bosse was director of asset allocation and chairman of the Investment Committee at DuPont Capital Management. While at DuPont, he designed the strategic asset allocation for the pension trust fund and managed the global tactical asset allocation portfolio. He also had investment oversight for several international pension plans and the employee defined contribution plan. Previous responsibilities at DuPont included developing quantitative equity strategies and managing a small-cap fund. Mr. Bosse formerly served on the Investment Committee for the University of Delaware Endowment and is a CFA® charterholder. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

John Byck, Business Development Manager, Canadian Gold & Silver Reserves, Royal Canadian Mint
John Byck manages the sales efforts for the Royal Canadian Mint’s Exchange-Traded Receipt program. In this role, John is responsible for increasing product awareness and educating potential investors across a variety of different channels (Retail, IIROC, Institutional). Before joining the Mint, John spent 10+ years in the Canadian Investment Industry, and most recently worked with one of the Canadian Chartered Banks as VP of Regional Sales. John holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Laurentian University in his hometown of Sudbury, Ontario.

 

 

Michael Cooke, Head of Distribution, PowerShares Canada
In this role, Michael integrates PowerShares exchange traded products into the Canadian retail and institutional markets. He works with both internal and external clients to complement Invesco’s existing business and bring the best of Invesco PowerShares global expertise to Canadian investment professionals and their clients.
Michael joined Invesco in 2008 after a career in derivative product marketing where he was responsible for the origination, structuring and distribution support of a broad range of products linked to a range of asset classes including fixed income, equity, commodities, managed funds and currencies. Prior to that, Michael held progressively senior sales, marketing and management positions at several global asset management firms. During his career, Michael has consulted with numerous institutional and retail clients across multiple product and business lines.
He is a graduate of Queen’s University in Political Studies and makes his home in Toronto with his wife and two children.

 

 

Bobby Eng, Senior Vice President, Head of Sales, FT Portfolios Canada Co.
Bobby Eng is Senior Vice President, Head of Sales at First Trust Portfolios Canada. He is responsible for sales and distribution of the AlphaDEX™ Exchange Traded Funds line up as well as other products. Mr. Eng has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry and was most recently the Director & Vice President, Head of National Accounts at Blackrock Asset Management responsible for retail brokerage senior executive relationships. He was also instrumental in the success of the iShares, Exchange Traded Funds business in Canada being responsible for sales and business development across Canada. Mr. Eng also held sales and relationship management roles at Fidelity Investments and National Bank of Canada.
Mr. Eng holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting from Concordia University and holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation from the Investment Management Consultant Association (IMCA).

 

 

Eden Engen, Portfolio Manager and Senior Investment Advisor, HollisWealth
Eden Engen is a portfolio manager and certified financial planner with HollisWealth. Eden has been in the wealth management industry for over 20 years and together with his business partner John Timms runs a successful practice (The Timms Engen Wealth Management Group) in the communities of White Rock and South Surrey. Eden is active in his community participating in various charitable events. Currently Eden is serving on the organizing committee for the B.C. Thanksgiving Day Food Drive, a province wide food drive in over 50 communities raising over 500,000 lbs. of food for local food banks every year. Eden lives in Langley, B.C. and recently became a grandfather.

 

 

Marty Gillespie, Director, Portfolio Trading, RBC Dominion Securities
Marty Gillespie is a Director at RBC Capital Markets, heading the ETF and Program Trading Group. After graduating with Honors from Wilfrid Laurier University, he began his career at TD Securities. With over 15 years experience in ETF markets, he leads a team of professionals, which carry the responsibility of being designated broker and market maker on several products in Canada . In addition, Mr. Gillespie covers Index and Program trading accounts globally. He also spearheads an ETF publication which aims to educate investors on market structure and dynamics of the ETF landscape.

 

 

George Hartman, Managing Partner, ELITE Advisors Canada Inc.
George Hartman’s 40-year career in financial services as an educator and executive spans both the insurance and investment industries.
He has been a featured speaker at numerous conferences in Canada, the US, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia, including the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Annual Meeting and Top of the Table Annual Meeting. George writes a monthly column called The Coach’s Forum for the trade journal Investment Executive and is a regular guest on Investment Executive’s Building Your Business television broadcast.
George is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of ELITE Advisors Canada Inc. – a firm dedicated to helping great financial advisors build great practices. He presently coaches a number of top-producing advisors in Canada and the US and advises several financial industry firms on their strategic plans. He has published three best-selling books and his most recent, Blunder, Wonder, Thunder – Powering Your Practice to New Heights placed #1 on the Globe & Mail’s Business Book Best-Seller list in its first week of release.
George is also Founder & CEO of Market Logics Inc., a firm that provides intelligence-based solutions to organizations and individuals looking to take their business to new levels.

 

 

Peter Hayes, National Director, Alternative Investments Practice, KPMG
Peter Hayes is the National Director of KPMG’s Canadian Alternative Investments practice. He has more than 12 years of professional experience serving Canadian, US and international private investment funds, reporting issuer mutual funds and asset managers, and their service providers. Peter re-joined KPMG after spending several years developing and managing alternative investment products with Citigroup Alternative Investments in New York. He was previously an audit manager in the Alternative Investments practice of KPMG in the Cayman Islands. Peter started his career with KPMG in Vancouver serving clients in a variety of industries. Peter is a member of the Legal & Finance Committee of the Alternative Investment Management Association (Canada Chapter) and the Treasurer of the Canadian Securities Lending Association.

 

 

Stephen Hoffman, Vice President, Exchange Traded Funds, RBC Global Asset Management Inc.
As Vice President, Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), at RBC Global Asset Management (RBC GAM), Stephen leads the product development and management agenda for RBC GAM’s presence in the Canadian ETF market, and supports the utilization of RBC ETFs across all relevant distribution channels.
Previously at RBC GAM, Stephen was responsible for direct-to-investor strategies, working with RBC Direct Investing to develop and implement strategies to increase the profile of mutual funds with self-directed investors. Prior to that, he was responsible for product management of the RBC Funds and RBC Private Pools. As part of this role, Stephen led the re-design and re-launch of RBC Managed Portfolios, a proprietary mutual fund wrap program targeted at the mass affluent market.
Prior to joining RBC GAM in 2003, Stephen spent five years at TD Asset Management, were he was responsible for product development for TD Mutual Funds. He led a number of significant projects while at TD, including planning and executing the TD-CT mutual fund merger, and the design and launch of TD’s ETF initiative.
A CA, CPA and CFA, Stephen received an MBA in Finance and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the Schulich School of Business at York University.

 

 

Bill Housey, Senior Vice President & Senior Portfolio Manager, First Trust Leverage Finance Team
William is the Senior Portfolio Manager for the First Trust Advisors Leveraged Finance Investment Team, which had approximately $1.3 billion under management or supervision as of December 2013.
William has 17 years of investment experience and has extensive experience in the portfolio management of both leveraged and unleveraged credit products, including senior loans, high-yield bonds, credit derivatives (CDS/LCDS) and work-outs/corporate restructurings. Prior to joining First Trust Advisors, William served as Executive Director and Co-Portfolio manager at Van Kampen Funds, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Morgan Stanley (“Morgan Stanley/Van Kampen”), where he was a Portfolio Manager of institutional structured products and a Senior Analyst. William previously managed two collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) and an unlevered comingled institutional fund.
William received a B.S. in finance from Eastern Illinois University and an M.B.A. in finance as well as management and strategy from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business. William holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Chicago.

 

 

J.P. Lavoie, Vice President Sales, First Asset ETFs
J.P. Lavoie is Vice President of Sales and brings over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector to his role at First Asset.
J.P. is responsible for sales in British Columbia across First Asset’s three product lines: exchange-traded funds, mutual funds and closed-end funds.
Prior to joining First Asset, J.P. spent six years as Senior Vice President of Wealth Management at Canaccord Capital. In this role, J.P. created and led the development of Canaccord’s fee based programs, including their SMA programs and discretionary programs. He also created a financial planning division, was responsible for the firm’s product line-up and was head of National Training.
J.P. holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

 

 

Derek Lovett, Analyst, Exchange Traded & Mutual Funds, Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management
Derek works with the Go Desk, Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management’s idea generation team, where he focuses on managed products such as mutual funds, hedge funds and exchange traded funds. A graduate of Simon Fraser University’s Economics program and holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, he has 13 years of experience in the financial services industry, serving in a variety of roles including research, investment management and financial planning.

 

 

Craig MacDougall, Investment Advisor, Credential Securities Inc./ Vancity Life Insurance Services Ltd.
Craig MacDougall is an experienced investment advisor in the Victoria area. He specializes in fee-based portfolios, and enjoys helping successful families pull the weeds from their outdated portfolios. Craig is a proud father of two beautiful children ages 7 and 5, with his beautiful wife Zoe. Craig has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from Simon Fraser University, is a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Investment Manager, Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute, is dual-licensed to sell insurance-based investment products, and completed the Level 1 CFA exam last December.

 

 

Rohit Mehta, Senior Vice President, First Asset ETFs
Rohit Mehta brings 15 years of experience in the financial services industry as Senior Vice President of First Asset and as a member of the senior management team. Rohit is integral in all three of First Asset's product lines: Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), Mutual Funds and Closed-End Funds.
Rohit's passion for financial services started with his first position at RBC Dominion Securities. Since then he has held progressive roles in financial services and management. Prior to joining First Asset, he was Vice President and National Sales Manager at a major Canadian investment management firm.
Rohit is a contributing speaker at many industry conferences, events, and also is a regular commentator in the media. He sits on the Media and Public Relations committee of the Canadian ETF Association. Rohit holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours Economics) degree from the University of Western Ontario.

 

 

Eddy Mejlholm, Investment & Wealth Advisor, RBC Wealth Management - RBC Dominion Securities
Eddy made a major career transition to the financial services industry in 2005 after several years in the telecommunications industry. Eddy obtained his Certified Financial Planner designation in 2007. In addition to many financial industry qualifications and training, he has a Bachelor of General Studies and an Advanced Certificate in Management Studies from Thompson Rivers University. Eddy has completed industry courses covering diverse topics such as: derivatives, options, investment management techniques, wealth management techniques, mutual funds, insurance, tax management, passive investment strategies, and fee-based financial planning.
Eddy lives in Chilliwack with his wife and 3 sons. They are involved in their church and other charities. They love the outdoors so can be often found biking, hiking, running, canoeing, and camping around BC. In addition to the outdoor activities, Eddy often participates in local running, cycling and triathlon events.
Eddy is passionate about giving his clients first-rate advice and solid recommendations based on their needs. He cares deeply about his client's well-being and seeks to develop long lasting relationships and providing thorough and sustainable solutions.

 

 

Amelia Nedovich, Head, Business Development, ETFs & Structured Products, Toronto Stock Exchange
Ms. Nedovich joined Toronto Stock Exchange 15 years ago and has served in various capacities throughout her tenure. Currently, she is responsible for the implementation of the ETF & Structured Product business development strategy for Toronto Stock Exchange, including sponsored education and marketing initiatives promoting the growth of the industry. She also manages relationships with key ETF and structured product industry participants.
Prior to joining TSX, Ms. Nedovich worked as an economist with the Ontario Public Service.
Ms. Nedovich holds an MA in Political Economy from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the Rotman School of Management.

 

 

Jaime Purvis, Executive Vice-President, National Accounts, Horizons ETFs
As Executive Vice-President at Horizons ETFs, Jaime manages the national accounts relationships for Horizons ETFs with Canadian Investment Dealers, as well as managing relationships with the Dealer’ managed asset and discretionary management programs. Jaime is also responsible for directing the Self-Directed Investing channel and delivering key concepts and product knowledge to the management, operations, and investors. Jaime also manages the Institutional sales program for HETFs in Europe.
Jaime is also the designated Product specialist for Horizons ETFs, and is integral in implementing and delivering educational campaigns for Horizons, such as the very successful Horizons ETF University series.
A Queen’s University graduate with an Honours degree in Political Science, Jaime has been with Horizons ETFs-related firms since 1995.

 

 

Yves Rebetez, Managing Director, Editor, ETFinsight
Recognizing the need for an all-encompassing resource dedicated to Canadian Exchange Traded Funds, Yves recently launched www.etfinsight.ca.
From 2004 until early 2011, Yves was Vice President, ETFs/Structured Products with Canada's largest Bank-owned Broker/Dealer, RBC Dominion Securities. Prior to that ( 1996-2004) Yves served as Portfolio Advisor (Canadian Equities) in DS’s Portfolio Advisory Group. His earlier work experience focused on portfolio management, both in Fixed Income (for Institutional Clients), and in International Equities (for High Net Worth Individuals), with Credit Suisse Canada in Toronto, and earlier with UBS in Switzerland. Yves is a CFA charterholder.

 

 

Stephen Robertson, Partner, Securities & Capital Markets Group, Borden Ladner Gervais
Stephen Robertson is a Partner in Borden Ladner Gervais LLP’s Securities & Capital Markets Group. He focuses his practice on advising clients in a variety of sectors with respect to securities and investment management industry matters, including investment fund managers, dealers and portfolio advisors. He has been involved in advising with respect to the formation of public and private Canadian investment funds, as well as with respect to day-to-day operations and management of those funds. Stephen has a variety of additional expertise in the investment management industry field, including advising with respect to matters respecting registration under Canadian securities laws, exemptive relief applications, and developing policies and procedure manuals for compliance and regulatory matters. Stephen is a Director of Carousel Theatre Society, and is the Chair of the Securities Law Section of the British Columbia branch of the Canadian Bar Association.

 

 

Kevin Rusli, Counsel, Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP
Kevin regularly provides legal advice regarding the regulation and registration of investment fund managers, portfolio advisers and dealers, and has considerable experience in structuring and implementing new asset management platforms in Canada for both domestic and international investment fund providers. He is engaged in the regulatory changes and development of the mutual fund and exchange-traded fund (ETF) industry and currently sits as a member of the Policy Committee and Media and Public Relations Committee of the Canadian ETF Association.

 

 

Atul Tiwari, Managing Director, Vanguard
Atul Tiwari is managing director of Vanguard Investments Canada Inc. Mr. Tiwari is responsible for leading the Canadian business.
Before joining Vanguard in May 2011, Mr. Tiwari held progressively senior positions at Bank of Montreal Financial Group (BMO). Most recently he was senior vice president of BMO Asset Management and president of BMO Exchange Traded Funds. Before that, he was president and CEO of BMO's U.S. subsidiary mutual fund business, Harris Insight Funds, in Chicago. Other prior experience includes being called to the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Supreme Court of England and Wales, as well as practising law in London, England, for two years.
Mr. Tiwari serves as a director on the board of trustees and as chairman of the pension committee for the Royal Ontario Museum. He is a director and treasurer of the Canadian ETF Association. He was also a campaign cabinet member for the Neshama Universal Playground in Toronto, Canada, and a director of the D.D. Foundation, which provides medical care and education to the disadvantaged in India. He served on the Building Osgoode campaign cabinet and is a past president and director of the Osgoode Hall Law School Alumni Association.

 

 

Ian Williams, Managing Director, Trading & Sales, ITG Canada Corp.
Mr. Williams heads ITG Canada’s High-touch Trading Desk. This group includes experts in portfolio trading, block sourcing, and ETF liquidity. Mr. Williams is responsible for all trading related businesses and electronic trading products at ITG Canada including ITG’s growing ETF business.
Mr. Williams has more than 15 years experience in the brokerage and investment industry and previously held the role of President at Perimeter Markets Inc. and Head of Trading at TD Asset Management.
Mr. Williams has a BA in Economics from York University in Toronto, and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
